About Penny M. Clement

End of Life Doula & Educator
Director of Programs, Operations, & Partnerships
International Doula Life Movement Institute

Penny is the founder of Peaceful Transitions, an end-of-life doula and healthcare advocate service that focuses on helping individuals and their loved ones through the most significant transitions of their lives. As a doula she focuses on planning, educating, and walking with her clients through the end of life, and providing continuing support to those left behind. As a healthcare advocate, Penny works with clients who are facing various medical conditions, offering support throughout diagnosis, treatment, and recovery.

She is also the Programs, Operations, and Partnerships Director as well as course creator and instructor for International Doula Life Movement Institute. IDLM Institute provides affordable and accessible doula training to any individual ready to make a difference in their community members’ lives. The International Doula Life Movement Institute takes great pride in our signature End of Life Doula certification training program, as well as courses across all areas of doula care. To date, IDLM Institute has trained over 3,000 doulas in 18 countries.

Prior to receiving her certification as an end-of-life doula, Penny was the primary caretaker for both of her parents during illness, aging, dementia, and the end of their lives. She was able to fulfill their wishes to pass at home surrounded by loved ones. This inspired her to do everything she could to help others in having as peaceful a transition as possible.

Penny’s previous 24-year career in banking, trust, and wealth management has given her a unique perspective on end-of-life planning and estate settlement that perfectly complements the other aspects of end-of-life doula care. She has a mind for business and a heart for service.

The First Time

The first time I was in the room when someone died was about 20 years ago. I was visiting a friend and her father in the hospital. He had Alzheimer’s and was brought to the hospital because he was having trouble breathing. My friend had come in from out of town because they were expecting it to be the end. “Penny was by my sister’s side from the day she was diagnosed until the day she left us. She attended doctor appointments, treatments, and tests, carefully keeping track of what each physician said and what plans were being made.

Having Penny with us throughout my sister’s illness gave our family tremendous peace of mind. We knew my sister was receiving the best care possible and that nothing would be overlooked. I truly don’t know how anyone navigates a major health crisis without a doula like Penny.”

“Penny was wonderful in helping me understand and cope with the death processes of my mother, as well as my close friend.  She helped me verbalize what was happening and gave clear, sound advice with compassion.  I’m not sure how I would have gone through the death process without someone there to guide and explain all that comes with losing a loved one.

Penny was with my friend from her cancer diagnosis all the way to her death and services.  She took notes from doctors, explained medication, helped with hospice, called a priest for anointing – and a myriad of other things that you can’t put a price on.  With all of the changes and advances in cancer healthcare, hospice, and funeral arrangements – Penny is a Godsend!  We cannot thank her enough for all that she has done.  I would highly recommend her services if you find yourself in the grieving process.”
